In an ever accelerating pace of life, BJ believes that the busiest people have the most time. In exchange for television, BJ spends time with his family and friends and attempts to part take in as many events of suffering as possible. These activities range from a 5km park run and a splash in the pool with the kids, to the ABSA Cape Epic and Ironman events (the swim, bike, run version… not towing tucks and bending nails). When not sweating, the outdoors continues to receive its fair share of BJ’s time. Whether it’s a round of golf or fishing, he is always planning the next trip. During the quiet times, he enjoys a bit of reading, specifically authors like Deon Meyer, Malcolm Gladwell and Yuval Harari.

Career Information

BJ Vorster holds a B.Sc.(QS) (Hons) degree from the University of the Free State and is currently employed as Executive Director by Planning and Cost Engineering Services (Pty) ltd. BJ’s professional career in Project Controls started in 2005 and he has ever since been involved in capital project controls ranging from mega capital projects to small refurbishments projects over industries including Mining, Infrastructure, Energy, Minerals and Process and Oil and Gas. BJ’s passion for packaging capital estimates for purposes of securing funding was reinforced when he recently acted as a panelist at the Russian-UK Raw Materials Dialog in London.

In his career BJ has played a role in several large organisations Project Management Offices to set up, and implement controls processes, procedures and standards at project, portfolio and program level. His areas of expertise include Capital Project Assurance, Capital Project Estimating, Project Setup, Risk Based Contingency Estimating, Capital Cost Benchmarking, Project Cost Control and Project Controls Management. He provides solutions and services to companies ranging from major organizations worldwide to local juniors, all with the objective to increase the probability for project success. BJ is an advocate of relaying knowledge which is evident in his involvement in training and compiling of course curricula stretching from standard one day courses to specialised custom build courses catering for client specific needs.
